Should pronouns (he, her, its &c.) be avoided where possible and the full (keyword) noun be used within a web page?

Eg:

"Christopher columbus was an explorer. He did this that and the other"

or

"Christopher Columbus was an explorer. Christopher Columbus did this that and the other"

The first reads better, but I feel search engines may prefer the higher keyword ratio in the second.

Hi,

You're correct of course.
BUT keep in mind that an excessive keyword repeating could be recognized as spam.
So try to obtain the best ratio between the two.

If you don't have someone to proofread your copy, then try reading it out loud to yourself. If you stumble over it or it sounds funny, there's a good chance your users will be in the same boat. Also, if you put your KWs in the title, in the headers, and in the anchor text you shouldn't have to over stuff your copy.
