Keyword Targetting

2 or 3 Word Phrase

Hi,

We are trying to optimise a site for an extremely competitive 2 word keyphrase.

My question is would we be better of targeting a 3 word phrase like 'Keyword1 Keyword2 courses'?

I realise it would be easier to rank for the 3 word keyphrase however if we target to 2 word phrase would that also help our ranking for the less competitive 3 word phrase.

If you can get high ranking now for the 3 word phrase pretty easily, I would optimize for it. I would also optimize a separate page using the two word phrase, assuming I could come up with enough original content.
