Why do some key words rank well, but others don't?

why do some key words rank well. then other dont? my site, the very best keyword i dont rank. but all others i am doing well. also someone said need to right new pages every day whats up with that? anyone care to point me right thanks sam

this whole site I decicated to ranking high. Without specifics, I doubt someone can condense 250+K pages in one post...

1 word - competition
If your site were the only one targeting a certain set of keywords you would probably do well for every keyword, but chances are there are thousands of sites optimizing for the same sets of keywords.
