Section On Page For Keywords

Is it ok to list keywords on your page to help visitors find your site?

I have come across a few sites which feature a section near the bottom of the page listing keywords and phrases(including misspellings). Some are long standing authoritive sites.

Is it ok do this - would I run the risk of penalties from the search engines or if the keywords are displayed in an open manner is this ok?

This is frowned upon and could possibly get you a penalty as it is generally regarded as spamming. But I guess it depends on how prevelant it is.

If only it were that easy ;-)
