Overuse of Keywords

Does this have an effect?

Using a meta tag analyser i typed in my url.
Everything seemed fine but there was a list of keywords from the the body of the text with the total amount of times each word is used on that page.

My main keyword was used 202 times, adding an 's' to this keyword gave another 38.
This to me is far to many and i was wondering if you think i would be penalised by SE's for having too many? Is there any safe amount to include as a rough guess?

It does sound a bit high, but that depends on other factors. One of the biggest - how many other words are on the page? Most people around here think in terms of KW page density, and there's no clear cut answer. Brett suggests you "hit the density between 5 and 20% (don't fret about it)" in the Successful Site in 12 Months with Google Alone [webmasterworld.com]

Also, does the page read naturally? Or does it come off like "Thank you for stopping by widget world where you'll find widgets, widgets, and more widgets, at great widgetty prices"? In other words, you want to have good KW density without scaring off your visitors with unreadable copy.

I posted an earlier topic that i realised i was spamming by hidding text within the no script tag. Since removing this data, i now only have 23 uses of the word which slightly concerns me ;)

I doubt you'd be penalized.

They do count in the algorithm, but very little. I think they're worth using but probably not worth it to go overboard with them. Use your KWs in them naturally.
