I've fairly recently gotten my feet into the SEO world, so I will probably have a lot of questions. the way I have had it explained to me, you don't want to have too many keywords in your meta tags.

Do you seasoned SEO guys out there find this to be true. If i create a particular content page, would it be better to have 25-30 specific keywords, or a bunch of more general terms?

Thanks.

i would definitely suggest more specific.

More competitive terms will typically be much less competitive.

justdave, welcome to WebmasterWorld and to the SEO world.

Don't worry too much about the meta tags, concentrate on your <title> tags instead.

hobbnet is correct. But it would be even better if you created 25-30 pages for each specific KW phrase.

I agree. Don't try to do too much on any single page. Spread the keywords out over many pages and don't forget related keywords. If you have a good, informative page some keyphrases should do well.

justdave - Welcome to the forums.

This is good advice. The meta keyword tag is highly overrated. Onpage optimization is about page focus. You don't want to try to target too much on any particular page. These threads should get you started on titles....

It really doesn't matter I don't even put any in my meta tags. I think Y puts some value in it but I don't rank anywhere on there so I don't really care much about Y anymore. It is funny how so many people think that the kw meta tag is so important to SEO. It is about the least important thing there is. What little value it might have is so tiny that the effort to do it would be better spent on other factors that mean a zillion times more like more backlinks.
