I am optimizing my site for a three keyword phrase. How can I find out how many times a keyword or key word combination gets serached on google/yahoo on an average day? Does WordTracker help here? What is the best tool?

I've always tested keywords using a paused 'Test' campaign in my Adwords account.

Some people have criticised the accuracy of the results, but:

1/ It gives you a feel for the relative strength of different keywords and combinations.

2/ You can enter whichever keywords you like rather than relying on results from a suggestion tool.

3/ The suggestion tools can come up with other ideas.

4/ You have the information neatly stored for future reference.

5/ If you ever decide to run a PPC campaign, the keywords are already in there.

Neil.

Neil, thanks. That tools tells us how many clicks we can expect on our ad but not how many total searches. Its a good indicator but lot of other factors effect that number, such as how many other advertisers are using the same kw/phrase etc.

I don't know about Google, but Overture releases their search history. I just recommended a tool called Scout [jrkdesign.com] to another guy that displays the volume of searches a search term gets in Overture for last month. (in case you didn't know, Overture supplies search results to MSN, Yahoo, AskJeeves, etc.)
