I didn't see the question when it was posted (a month ago!). But by now it has probably occurred to you to try a different browser, and see if anything behaves differently.

:: now back to wondering irritably why Firefox thinks my own pages require horizontal scrolling, when there is absolutely nothing with excessive width (and Safari does not share the delusion) ::
