JS.why?

I usually surf with scripting disabled, but in the last couple of days I've had to enable it to plan a trip, and buy a couple of pressies.

I've also had to "force quit" more times in two days than I've had to in two years, so is JS inherently flawed, or does no-one seem to know how to implement it properly?

Hmm....I have to say I have no issues with crashes etc. caused by js scripting, but I run FF pretty much exclusively. What browser are you running when it occurs and what types of sites are you visiting?

IE 5.2 on a Mac running on OSX 10.2.8, the sites I've been visiting use DBs that just don't work without JS, but even some of my "usual suspects" seem clunkier once scripting is enabled.

ahh...yeah, 5.2 for mac is known to have a good number of issues. Not sure why they can't get that down.

I believe even Microsoft has recommended Mac users migrate from IE to an alternative such as a Mozilla derivative, Safari, or Opera.

Your problem is the browser, not Javascript. You can download Opera for Mac, Firefox for Mac, or you can just use what came with your OS and happens to be the best browser on the planet in my mind... Safari.
(Granted, the version that came with the 10.2.8 release had a few bugs... Safari for Panther or Tiger is better, but any version of it will make you wonder why you were using something else for so long)
