How can I run my own adds on my web pages?

This is my first post, (I know I’m meant to keep it short) but just wanted to thank all the contributors to the forum. Having in the past spent many hours reading comments, entirely forgetting what I came to look at… Thanks!

My question…

I have a few websites at the moment and would like to run my own add across all of them (without changing pages individually). I would like an image to appear with a link – it is basically to give some of my auctions a bit more exposure – I would like the space to “collapse” back down again when I don’t have anything to show.

Can this be done simply, with some JavaScript on the page and host the image + link on my server somehow? Many thanks. (Sorry if it's posted in the wrong place)

Hi yumyog,
Welcome to WebmasterWorld.

It sounds like you are looking for a php include to accomplish this. Have you looked in that direction?

Do you expect your script to know when you have an auction going?

Thanks jb,

I don’t know what a “php include” is, my experience is in DreamWeaver and graphics. (I’ve been reading some Carp documentation, shaking my head, saying mmmm… I’ll do that maybe next month.)

No, the script doesn’t have to know when I have an auction going. What I had envisaged was to make a little custom graphic and somehow upload this with an embedded link to the server, the image + link would then appear on various pages.

I was thinking of it in very simplistic terms (in keeping with my experience/lack of).

Check out this thread on includes. It explains a lot.
