Strange search box behaviour in Firefox/IE 8

Javascript search box problem

I recently added a javascript search box to a website: SNIP based on SikBox search.

However the search box doesn't seem to work in all browsers. It works fine in Safari and Google Chrome but not Firefox or IE8.

In Firefox the search box does not always appear and in IE there are problems displaying the page. It is definitely the search box that is causing the problems. The box itself calls a javascript file called magic.js (SNIPJavascript used) This file then uses JQuery and a search file to search the website.

Any ideas what could be causing the problems?

Any help would be appreciated!

3.) The page is valid and I'm not seeing any JavaScript errors in Firefox 3.6 or IE8.
