Cookies set for .example.com not read by Javascript

We are setting cookies using PHP code for .example.com (note the leading dot) so that it can be accessed by all sub-domains etc. as per http://example.com/phpCookie

This cookie however is not being read by Javascript. Any ideas on how/why?

The URL has been edited to be incorrect, the correct URL is [us.php.net...]

It may be an httponly [webmasterworld.com] cookie.

Are you trying to set and read the cookie on the same page?
