How to make Edit box partially prefilled with readonly value

I am wondering how can I make an edit box with the first part pre-filled?

Simialr to how Facebook does for status y'know: John is blah-blah, where the user can click inside the edit field bit "John is" is greyed out and uneditable while the rest of the text field can be edited and the user can enter text such as "having a fabulous day" to produce the final status message of: :
"John is having a fabulous day"
for that user's profile.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Use an image maybe? Have the image a fixed with, left aligned inside the box and pad the box left to start the text after the image?
