i finally found an equivalent to firebug for IE. i hope its ok to mention it, it doesn't seem to be comercial. i know links aren't allowed, so search for companion.js

brilliant! this is going to be very handy. I haven't tried it in a real debugging situation, but it does a nice job exposing the DOM, HTTP stream, scripts, CSS, and more. Thanks for the tip.

The download site says it's 100% malware+spyware free. But ... of course they would say that even if it was stuffed with keyloggers and spybots.
