how to display popup boxes with options on mouseover

Hi,

I am not sure how to explain this, but if you visit Amazon.com or Microsoft.com, on the very top, they have buttons like "Your Lists", "Gift Certificates", or "See all 41 product categories".

As I mouseover on these buttons or links, a small box open up magically on the same browser window. This is not a separate popup window that comes on some site to subscribe to the Newsletter. It shows up on the same screen, overlapping the html text displayed, and the window hides when the mouse moves over.

I am not sure even if this is possible using javascript, or is it achieved using ASP or PHP, but would like to know how to build such a thing, and if you can point me to any code/samples/tutorials etc., it would be really fantastic.

Any help is appreciated.

There are a lot of good examples of javascript menus at a site called "dynamicdrive dot com". I don't know if they have exactly the thing you want, but there are very many ideas on that site.
