How can I open applications with a Web Page?

I'm looking for a way to make a game off of any given computer open as soon as click on a link or something. Would I have to download a plugin or something, or could I just type in a simple code? Thanks for the help :) .

..is that generally speaking, you can't, unless there is some plugin involved.

Yeah that was what I was talking about. I want a code that tells a computer to open an application from a website. I guess I'm going to have to learn how to make a plugin ;) .

Applications can be run, rather than downloaded - many installation files for instance. So I'm not saying this is impossible.
