Does anyone know a good way to find out the hosting company from the ip address or anything else available in whois? I have been able to get the nameserver and resolve the ip address to hostname, but the format is not exactly what I was looking for - I really wanted something like Sedo, Rackspace, 1and1... vs what I am getting www1.sedoparking.com (rather than sedo) and this is one of the best... Any suggestions..

I would recommend trying to see who owns the IP block in question. Although, this can be diffult since the hosting company isn't always the registered owner. It all really depends on how big the hosting company is. Try using [ws.arin.net...] .

Also, out of sheer curiousity if your subjects ip address is something like 216.17.75.251 then i'd start going to placed like [216.17.75.252,...] 253, etc. Just to see if there are any dedicated sites that have been parked by the hosting company.

You might want to also try just SSH'ing, Telnet'ing, FTP'ing into the IP address to see if there are any clues around. You should be able to turn up something with enough digging.

Good luck.
