Hello,

We are testing our web application on windows xp service pack 2. I encountered the following annoying change:

When you open a new window, either via window.open or window.showModalDialog, you are unable to hide the statusbar, unless the site you are visiting is a trusted site.

I know you shouldn't hide it and blablabla, but our customers are used to the design and the interface, and we don't want to change everything because of an os service pack. The application is also IE only.

Does anybody knows how to hide the statusbar for untrusted sites (a hack maybe ;-))?

Thanks

Yoeri

Yoeri, can't help you, but what exactly happens if you do open the window with status=no? Does IE throw an error?

trying not to panic...

It just doesn't hide the statusbar...everything else works as it should.

I am having the same problem.

It's not that I'm trying to "hide" anything...I just have a window that looks 150% better with no other stuff around it.

A solution to this would be very helpful.

Service Pack 2 does not allow websites to hide IE's status bar. There are other items that can no longer be hidden.

This is to stop those annoying pop-ups that some webmasters use where you can only close the window with Alt+F4. Most users do not know how to do this and have to switch their machine off at the wall because they can't work out how to get to the start button to shut it down properly. (I know, I know, use the Windows button - but again, plenty of users don't know what it does!).
