Hidden Link?

I'm about to buy a template that has a horizontal bar with about 5 mmain headings on it. When you point at one of the headings a few internal page links pop up in a line below the heading almost in the same way that an alt tag heading appears when you point at a graphic. You then chose one of the pages and click on it to go there.
Is this a hidden link that will get me penalised?

It sounds like it's a simple JavaScript drop down menu - this would not get you banned/penalised. Don't forget that the spiders may have troubles in following this type of link, you can have this type of link using CSS as well, which is search engine friendly.
