Hi everyone, I'm Autumn. I'm new to the forum and I really need someones help please!

I started getting a ton of pop-ups so I ran spy sweeper. It picked up a few things so I figured I was finished and went back to browsing. Then I started getting about: blank. No go. I then ran adaware. No go. I ran McAffee- just for fun, mind you.. Then AVG for giggles.. Finally I was laughing hysterically and found a free download which told me I had the drsnsrch.com hijacker with an IE plugin and after I purchased it, it would get rid of it- SPYHUNTER. (don't waste your $36.00) It didn't get rid of it. Now I'm merely a tad bit disgruntled... and still have all the wonderful pop-ups and my IE keeps going to about: blank because of the hijacker.

Can anyone suggest anything that isn't very hi tech to get rid of the hijacker and the IE plugin? Otherwise I might blow this thing up..

Thanks so much in advance!

no, I'm not blonde, not the roots anyway. ;)

Hello Autumn,

Welcome to WebmasterWorld.

I suggest you download and run Spybot -it is free and usually quite effective.

Dropping URL is not allowed here, so I will be sending it you via StickyMail. Check your stickymail.

You might try using a different browser like Firefox or Opera. They're (in the short term at least) far less likely to be an infection vector for spyware.

Many of the worst hijacking scripts depend on installing a BHO (Browser Helper Object) on your system to perform the hijack. But l find that of today's spyware programs identify a lot of relatively harmless objects (silly little cookies, for instance), thereby making the user feel they are constantly in trouble, but making the really bad guys harder to notice.

At any rate, the freeware application BHODemon can be a nifty tool to have around, guarding your IE from the baddest of the bad. [definitivesolutions.com...]

Best site I have seen for getting rid of the really persistant spyware is [geekstogo.com...]

They helped me get rid of one that 5 different spyware programs could not. There are a couple of really nasty ones out there.
