How do I install Internet Explorer?

Hi all,

I need to do a fresh install of IE because some SpyWare or something has messed things up. I'm on a 18 month old Dell PC running XP sp1

A few questions...

1. Should I first remove my present version of IE
2. Besides saving my Bookmarks & ISP settings, is there anything else I should do.
3. Finally, where do I get a copy of IE 6? Should I use the CD that came with my DELL PC or go online and get something from MicroSoft.

If you have a machine that has been running for 18 months and you still haven't moved up to Win XP SP2 yet I wouldn't be surprised if it has a lot of junk on it. If your setup is so messed up that a simple scan with something like ad-aware isn't getting you back to normal I would seriously consider reinstalling the operating system. My recommendation may seem a little bit harsh but if this stuff has trashed your version of Internet Explorer I would be concerned that there are other less frequently used files that have been messed with that will create problems that you just haven't noticed yet. A nice fresh install is usually faster, more stable, and applications are more likely to work the way they are supposed to. It may take you some hours to do but I think you will be much happier in the long term not having to troubleshoot why applications don't work or dealing with sluggish performance.

Do a scan with a popular program of your choice, there are many good free ones out there.

Hi Gene,

I had (and still have) a similar problem. My IE would not connect to the server. I have Ad-Aware and Norton Antivirus but that doesn't seem to have helped a lot.

I tried the microsoft reinstallation recommendation but IE would not install (it crashed in the middle of the installation process).

I installed Netscape and is working OK now, so I hope that will keep you going until you decide what to do.
