Best e-mail format to avoid spam

I have looked at so many types of email formats. Is there one that is better than another for keeping the spam away? I am talking about the actual construction of the email address as opposed to special coding, images, etc.

Does firstname.lastname@domain.com work better than firstname@domain.com or any other formats? Any input would be appreciated!

We do use software to identify and keep (some of) the spam away but it doesn't do the full job...

I really doubt it makes much of a difference. I don't see why any good spambot would see much of a difference between those constructions.

The simplest way is to use graphic links that display the address and a static href="mailto:"

You can augment that by setting the actual href with javascript but make sure the email address is not contained whole anywhere - it must be assembled from parts to be sure to defeat spambots.
