Just an oddball question. I was setting up some pages on my site to be printer friendly and parts of the page would print out wth black BG. Of course there was no #000 anywhere except for the text so my next consideration was ... was the browser using the correct stylehseet to format? I tried this a month ago with FF.

Hard to say without seeing the code used to refer to the stylesheets. Make sure the print stylesheet is linked to separately, using the correct method.
Is there a black background image used at all? Otherwise, I can't see why you are getting a black background, as the text colour shouldn't affect the background.
