This "psuedo link" to a Ftp site fails when clicked yielding "Page can not be displayed -- blah blah - dns or server error". Hit the refresh button and up pops the login screen as it should and all works.

href="ftp://class.blahserver.edu/data/dibble">Student Web Server FTP Site<

I have left the A tag parts out and changed the server name of course, but the basic details are there. Browser = IE. Cut and paste the orginal link into browser and it works. Is there something about this format or structure?

If I understad you correctly, it sounds like a bug in IE (shock!).

Perhaps if you add the username to the url it will work (of course, this may not be appropriate). Also try opening in a new window (target="_blank").

Thanks
Brought up at my daytime job
The problem is a text book assignment that wasn't in the prior version and niether staff(me)/instructors/students could make it work as shown. They had tested "new window" and grouped it in the with "refresh current screen" - "yup that works" group.

Wonderful IE!
