From SlashDot [slashdot.org]

happycorp writes "We've seen a few too many Firefox articles by now, but it is gaining a real presence in the market: Onestat reports that IE's share is down to 88.9% marketshare, with the combined Mozilla browsers above 7%. While we saw this trend much earlier in particular communities such as w3schools this is the first time IE has dropped below 90% in a general survey. Also interesting, the w3schools page shows a steady parallel increase in both Linux and Mac OS global marketshare over the last 18 months."

And here's a funny thing (got from the Register): check out the "photo provided by Microsoft" showing off the new MSN Search beta in this article [seattlepi.nwsource.com]. If you look closely, the photo clearly shows Firefox running on Windows XP. So, even Microsoft are running Firefox these days!

From C¦Net [news.com.com]

As Firefox marks its 5 millionth download, a long-running survey puts IE below 90 percent for the first time.

The full stats are available at OneStat's site [onestat.com]. From the article, we can do a bit of Math and learn that IE4 has fallen to 0.11%. We can also seperate things out by renderrer, which is far handier from a developer's prospective:

MSHTML (Internet Explorer - All): 88.90%
Gecko (Mozilla, Firefox, Netscape 6/7): 7.35%
Opera (Ummm... Opera - All): 1.33%
KHTML (Konqueror, Safari): 0.91%*
Netscape (Netscape 4/5): *

* Unfortunately, they don't seperate out Konqueror in the results nor do they even mention Netscape 4. There would be a VERY SMALL boost to the KHTML numbers by including Safari.

We could even go further and seperate out the IE rendering engines:

MSHTML-Modern (IE 5.5 & 6): 84.61%
Gecko (Mozilla, Firefox, Netscape 6/7): 7.35%
MSHTML-Legacy (IE 4 & 5**): 4.29%
Opera (Ummm... Opera - All): 1.33%
KHTML (Konqueror, Safari): 0.91%*
Netscape (Netscape 4/5): *

** There is some debate about whether IE5 would be "modern" or "legacy".
