Alright we all know wether it be IE, Netscape, Mozila, or any other sort of browser, theres somewhere a way to view the HTML source of a page. .

What I want to know is if possible, via command or javascript or any means nessessary. . . to deactivate that ability?

By Deactivate I mean either they try to view the source and it gives back an error message - or they hit view source and nothing - litterly - nothing is showing...

My instructor at the collage has us uploading our assignments to the servers and I don't want someone taking the easy way out by viewing my pages and copying the source.

I do mean more then just right clicking by the way, and if theres an aproach to get around the more-so tricky loopholes I'm all ears (nobody is that smart but, knowledge is power ;) )

You're really all right in that I can either do away with the site or just put up with the few who do steal. I choose to do the latter. It's just that what I can do, I've done, and if it's not enough then so be it. I just don't want to offend anyone by the no right click which I never even gave any thought to in the beginning when I first used it with the little pop up alert that had a message that seemed to offend some. So I substituted that one with the silent no right click (with no message at all to pop up). And then when I found my images being linked to by this other site, I used the .htaccess but that caused some other scripts at the site not to work that, tho they were in a different directory, the images still needed to be called and couldn't be. And then when I found my poetry being published on yet some other sites (and with the titles being changed even!), well it gets frustrating at times, to say the least. Especially, when I was contacted on several occasions by an organization that represented the rights of composers and artists saying I was not allowed to use the midis that are found all over the web on my site and naively, in the beginning I didn't realize I couldn't use them. After that, I found original music compositions and got in touch with the owners to get express permission to use their work in order to stay out of trouble - and even these have been linked to. And so I have to remember that not everyone is honest in their efforts like I have tried to be. But I can live with that.
Anyway, it's nice to know that if and when I do have a problem there's somewhere I can go to "vent". I thank all of you for your help and understanding.

jeebo, one other thing: you can expressly ALLOW various sites to load your images in the .htaccess file as well. I can't tell you how to do it (heh, I have a cheat - the servers my sites live on come with a wonderful thing called "cpanel" - which does stuff like .htaccess FOR ME with a WIZARD!), but if you check in the Apache Web Server forum, there's a lot of good info about the .htaccess file too.

And here's a link to a thread which started ME on the .htaccess path (of course, I wound up NOT doing my own from scratch) - maybe some of the info and links there will help you too.... [webmasterworld.com...]

I admire your stated beliefs, and I do wish that everyone else out there followed suit....

and naively, in the beginning I didn't realize I couldn't use them.

Which, in at least some cases, may be exactly what is happening to you as well.

I just did some playing around with an idea...

I created a 1 frame WMV file and embedded a chromeless Windows Media Player object on a page that loaded the WMV file. Interstingly enough, it looks just like an image, but is not subject to screen capture (thanks to Direct X) or Right Click -> Save As. Add in a dash of obfuscation and you may have something that would frustrate all but the most diligent. The kind that don't really want your images any way. They just want to "break you".
