page length

How large is to large a page when it comes to Search Engines. I have a glossary page that I'm working on and I'm thinking of breaking it up into alphabetical pages. But I'd rather have it one page because of all the good page content it has. Anyone have any ideas on how many characters on a page is to much?

Google cuts off at 101Kb of text/markup. However, as most users will not get past a three or four paragraphs on a long page, you shouldn't be approaching the former limit anyway!

And I thought 20kb of text was too long! I didn't know about that limit, but it's worth bearing in mind. Thanks.

I suggest you to break your glossary by letters and have a link "all in one page" with "none" in the robot tag so that SE will not read it (to avoid duplicate)

In original Google's design 4k words was the limit after which words would lose exact positional data thus impacting relevance calculation based on proximity.
