As a Mac user I check my stuff for cross browser issues using my son's pc.

On Mac, I can simply type in the url of a stylesheet, hit shift-refresh and get a fresh uncached version ...then reload the web page to which it relates and see how changes affect layout.

Trying to do this on his pc, and it insists on opening the stylesheet with Dreamweaver.

Presumably there's something which can change how stuff is handled.

I'll be appreciative of a tip. Please and thanks.

Right Click over file; then select "open with".

You'll be able to select notepad. it's True!

Find a css file on the computer or create a new text file with the .css extension. Right click on the file (in XP) and click on open with then choose program. Select Notepad then check the always checkbox. It should open them in Notepad from now on. I can't get it to open in IE. You can use this method if you have firfox.

I know that in 98 you have to hold down the shift key while right clicking over the file to get the choice of "open with".

Thanks, all. Appreciated.

At least I can now get to view the sheet to see if the browser is showing the current or a cached version.

If it's still showing a cached version - what's the best way to force it to load the current one?

Get Firefox with the developers plug-in - you'll be able to change the CSS file while looking at the page (and it will auto-refresh).
