Read Plain Text in Outlook 2002

I'm thinking this is a good thing

After reading a lot about HTML in email and the pros and cons I did some digging. I found it is easy to set outgoing email to text only, but incoming is harder.

I have a friend that discovered how to change his background and fonts in such a way as to make your eyeballs quiver in their sockets. This pushed me find a solution that required a little digging. In the case other Outlook 2002 users would want to receive in Plain Text here is the link to the Microsoft Support [support.microsoft.com] page for a solution. It requires a quick registry edit.

Nice find bumpaw - thanks a million for that.

One warning to people, be very careful when messing with your registry!

If you use Eudora Pro 5.1 (and probably lots of other versions) you simply go to

Tools ¦ Options ¦ Viewing Mail

and uncheck "Use Microsoft Viewer"

and voila! Text only.

TheBat! has an option to read emails in text only. Since using it I've received lots of spam complaining that I shold "upgrade" to an emial client that reads in HTML. That's easy to pick up on the filters and trash before I even get to have to read it.

BTW, I found that the Eudora option of not using MIcrosoft Viewer wasn't exacty text-only. It still picked up embedded programs. I think it was trying to be helpful, but it's one of the reasons I defected.

That's true, it isn't really text only. The odd image comes through too.

Unfortunately I've had too many problems with outlook and haven't found another good IMAP client (tried pegasus, but didn't like it).

I like the way outlook 2003 does it.

Text email is the default, and if you want images for that particular email, its a quick right click selection to view it as html.
