Lately this program has been needing time to close whenever I shut down. I assume it is related to IE but wonder if it is somehow an add on that may be malicious. I am in the dark about it. I use IE and have XPPRO on rr.

I am sure this is probably a very simple question but I am not proud. Cheers, S

That appears to be the prefetch file for Internet explorer, and should be found in your windows/prefetch folder.

If you're running FireFox or Opera, I suppose you could rename it... Just kidding!

You might try a search at MS to see if they have anything to say about issues closing iexplore, and it wouldn't hurt to run AdAware and Spybot Search & Destroy to make sure you don't have adware, spyware, or a trojan causing this problem.

Thanks Jim. I have SpywareGuard and SpywareBlaster now. Should I add these others on? Do these programs conflict? Cheers, S

Is the program "Iexplore.exe" or "IExplore.exe"? It's a big difference because one is a virus. See this list of various task names: [answersthatwork.com...]

Check your running tasks with ctrl+alt+del and compare the suspicious ones to the ones on the lists at the link above.

Thanks. The listing is exactly as in the title of this thread EXPLORE.EXE in caps. That is not noted on link, I don't think. Anyway I will see what ctl-elt-del brings up. Many thanks. S
