I have been happily using Mozilla mail for a while now with no probs. I have an email account with BT who have just merged with Yahoo mail. But now Mozilla Mail won't work - it just says 'bad authentication' if I try to get my messages. I have tried fiddling with the settings but to no avail.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to why this could be, what if anything I could do about it, or failing that, recommend an alternative good free email program?
So, in a nutshell, would I not be able to use any such open-source email program, instead I would have to use their web-based mail, or an application of their choosing?
They have sent me a CD which I guess has some stuff they want me to install, but I didn't want to clog up my PC with useless stuff that will hijack things and annoy me, or worse, I like the simple life! </end rant>
The only reason I want to keep this email address is that I've had it for about a hundred years. Perhaps I should upgrade to a better email account. Suggestions, anyone?
Also, in my tinkering of Mozilla Mail account settings, I have managed to delete all my emails. Doh!
I now know why I get a feeling of impending doom when I get an email saying my account has been 'upgraded' or 'improved'. They even congratulated me on this fact! Yeah, cheers... </end rant 2>
I suspected they had done something nasty to make my life more difficult.
Yes, they did. They unilaterally decided that you will now have to re-subscribe for your email using the Yahoo servers.
We sacked them as a result and moved to a new ISP. I know that many others have done the same.
It wasn't a clever move. I don't know why they couldn't have just "pointed" their old mail server DNS to the yahoo system and cross-referenced the password database?

In Edit/mail & newsgroups account settings/server settings put your full email address not just the bit before the @
and use pop.mail.yahoo.co.uk
as the server name
Works a treat. Thanks a bunch BT (sorry Mozilla is not supported)
