absolutely no images in IE show

no images at all show, just the thing with the triangle, circle and square

can anyone help, clearing temp internet files dosent work, and its not just gifs that dont show, NONE DO (unless i click show picture)

Perhaps someone has been playing with your settings?
Try going to the Advanced Tab in Internet Options and either click restore defaults or go through the list until you find show pictures and tick that box.

Do other external files work? For instance, CSS?

I and others have been suffering a bug for years that causes IE to stop using any external files -- images, css, js, you name it. The only workaround is a full re-boot and no one I know has found the actual cause. I suspect a software interaction of some kind.
