HTML to define an abbreviation

what is it? lost mind... reward offered...

i can't, for the life of me, remember the method used where you use an abbreviation on a page and when the mouse is hovered over it, the cursor changes to a question mark and then a click or hovertext tells you what the abbreviation stands for... the key trigger for this action is that the cursor changes to a question mark... you don't have to use abbreviations... you could use a complete phrase and then popup the abbreviation or even a note about the phrase...

arrrrrggggghhhhh! i can't believe i can't remember what this is and/or how its done :( searching google for "html synonym" and such doesn't give a glimmer of hope :( :( :(

OMG! geez... a "synonym" for synonym is "acronym"... i knew i knew what it was... just couldn't figure out the right word to use... thanks bcol! what is your preferred beverage? ;)
