Hi all,

I am looking for some advice. I am having some problems with my site. When it loads up IE 6 is saying that there is a syntax error in Line: 4 Char: 1. Any suggestions very much appreciated?
Thanks,
Adam

Welcome to Webmaster World!

Do you have JavaScript on your page?

Post a few lines of code either side of where the error is.

I am not sure!
How would I find that out?
I am not sure if this is in breach of terms of use but would someone be good enough to have a look at <Sorry, no URLs. See TOS [webmasterworld.com]>

Thanks all...

Posting your URL is in breach of the terms of service, but, in any case, I got a "Could not locate remote server" message when I tried to access it.

OK! I must appologise for breaking the T and C's. If I could get you to try again at some point.
Cheers,

Your javascript marquee is creating the error. Also, use the onwer edit on your post to take out your url, or the mods will do it.

A gentle suggestion -- consider not using a scroller and that will solve everything. I don't wait around to read the information in scrollers, and my experience with websites tells me most people don't, either.

Beyond that, a scroller hurts the rest of your page. The constant motion is an irritant and a distraction from the prinicipal information your page hopes to deliver. Reading on screen is already hard enough!

If your scroller is in the status bar, then it's even more likely to be overlooked. If it contains important information, then that information belongs in the static page somewhere -- it will get through to your audience much more effectively.

So that's my advice, but if you really feel you need the scroller, then find the script in your source code and the IE error message points you to the exact spot in the script where the error happens.

If you can't see what the error is, then post your javascript code (not your domain) over in our Javascript Forum with a short explanation of the problem you've run into.

Click the button marked "owner edit".

>> ...how do I get my javascript code? <<

Open your page code in Wordpad or Notepad, and look at the raw code there.

You can open it in Wordpad if you have a copy of the file on your hard drive. Start Wordpad, choose "File > Open" from the menu, select All Documents (*.*), browse to the HTML file and open it.

If you can't find it on your hard drive, just go to the web page with your browser and then view the source. In Internet Explorer you do this by choosing "View > Source" from the menu.
