Popup Blockers

Do they block user requested popups?

I am fairly certain that I know the answer to this! Popup blockers (like those that come with the various SE toolbars on the market) do not block user requested popups like links with javascript window.open commands onClick.

However, just so that I feel a little more secure and sleep better at night, has anyone any experience/knowledge to the contrary?

Thanks in advance!

No contrary experience. Only thing that comes to mind is Opera, where you can choose not to open any popup. It is not the default though.

Thanks Sinner_G, I knew that about Opera. The default, I think, is "Accept Pop-up Windows". The straw poll I've done shows that the vast majority of people use "Open requested pop-up windows only" and the rest use the default.

Cheers!

Some freebies will block user clicked pop-ups -- PanicWare is one widespread example.

I paid $15.00 for a popup blocker that ended up blocking ALL popups, even requested ones. Then I started using Mozilla FB . . . $15.00 wasted for said popup blocker! :)
