So today at the office I am doing some coding on a website I maintain and I am trying to debug this error that keeps popping up. The problem everytime I get a page with an error it would redirect me to this <other domain>. It would add in the url I was at in the query string and would try to do some dumb un intellegent search.

The problem is that I have never seen my browser behave in this manner. So I do some testing on my other browsers and they were all showing my error messages. So I try different types of errors, and no matter which type of error I throw it redirects me to this dumb site.

So now I am getting pissed off, I go through all the options on IE and cant find one that would redirect me to some dumb site on an error. So I search my local IE registry and I do a 'find' for <the domain> and boom it comes up with 2 folders. I delete them and boom problem solved.

Now the real question. How the hell between me leaving here yesterday and me arriving this morning do these files get added to my registry.

I am going under the assumtion that I was at a site with low morals standards, and that they installed this when I browsed there to increase traffic to this perfectnav site.

Anyone out there have this happen to them? I have registered a complaint with <the redirect domain involved> and asked them to tell me ways in which these folders could have been added to my computer without my knowlege.

And yes I have a secure terminal in a secure office.

As it turns out they are telling me the folders could only have been installed when I agreed to it when I was downloading a different program. Of course they wouldnt tell me which program, and I am not going to start guessing out loud.

I just love the morals some people set for the internet. At least there are sites like this one, with people trying to help rather than harm.
