Does anyone know what the percentage of screen resolutions that are being used?

ie. 800 * 600 or 1024 * 768

What is the most popular these days and what should I optimise my page for, I have been optimising for 800*600 but I guess a lot of people have the higher resolution now.

I use fluid layouts that way everyones happy.
Its probably better though to go by your own website stats not someone elses. That way your making the adjustments for people that visit your site...not that other guys.

Thanks for the advice very useful, the percentages are about what I thought they would be.

Agreed, fluid is the only way to keep everyone happy.

Yeah, the most common resolutions are 1024x768 and 800x600 but there are loads of other sizes out there to consider including 640x480, portrait displays, PDA screens, hi-resolution monitors, TVs etc

And even if you decide to ignore all them and stick to a static site that fits the big two then you're still ignoring the fact that the user may not have the window maximised or may have an Explorer Panel or sidebar open.
