Help, I'm hoping someone has a solution here:

When ever I click a javascript popup, it freezes up the browser for about 10 seconds before the window loads. Any idea how to remedy this annoyance? (I just freshly installed everything)

I get that on one PC as well, using XP. Mind you, it needs an install...

Gotta love Windows! What else would I do on weekends?

Hello, this is IE6. The issue is for javascript popups and target=_blank hrefs, although if I do a shift click to open in a new window there is not an issue.

this maybe a problem that borwser first tries to connect to that address before opening a window..
try to open a completely blank window and redirect its contents using javascript right after

Thanks for the suggestion, baton. I don't think this is the issue for two reasons:

(1) If I shift+click (open this link in a new window) there is no freezing
(2) I'm on a fast network

Have you run something like adaware to see if you have anything piggy backing the browser. I did have some toolbar "adware" that was slowing my browser to a crawl.

Are you running norton personal firewall? It has been known to do some crazy stuff with js.

You might have a popup blocker running that has gone bad. Even for legit popups, it can slow it down. I've noticed this with the ones I have tried.

When you hold shift for the popup, and it popsup at normal speed, that's probably because the shift key is the bypass for the popup blocker.

If the delay is getting really bad, you might even have to reinstall IE.
I had to do that when popups started getting really wrong.

(also some firewall software can do this kind of delay for some reason)

Whatever it was seems to have been cured. I did run adaware, and it found an alexa integration with IE (which I guess came with IE, since this was a fresh install of windows). Strange.
