Ok there must be a logical reason for this.
Take a html page that you want to print.
Let's say you are using a4 (210x297mm).
IE also has a margin setup of 19.05mm.

The printable width area of an html page therefore should be: 210 - (2 * 19.05) = 171.9 mm.
Convert this into pixels at screen resolution (72dpi)and we have 487 px.

So if a html page is 487px wide then when I print it it should fill the page, right?

Wrong. I have to resize my page to 650px before it fills the page perfectly. I have no sceen scaling or fit to page options ticked. Just default.

If I take a 487px (72dpi) in Photoshop guess what it fills the page. So why does this happen? Hmmmm

Any ideas most gratefully received.
Thanks,
Matt

hi matt, welcome to webmasterworld [webmasterworld.com]!

even if you're right in what you state (calc dpi etc.), it's the browser who has to do it right, too.

so sorry to say, for printing, an image for full-page might not be the right way. i suggest you to create a pdf instead.
