onClick="window.close() problem

not working in Netscape 4

I have an onClick="window.close() on one of my pop up windows, redirecting to a non-pop up page. It works in IE but not in Netscape 4.7 or older. Does anyone have any ideas to make this work in Netscape 4.7?
