gday - we have just been contracted to build a site for a car mechanic for old chysler (valiant) cars.

the guys i am working for dont want the normal type of site with corporate template looking site (kind of hard to explain - but this could be an example: [example.com...]

anyway - what are some of the new, funky looking site designs going around at the moment?

we have a couple of designer who will build it - but we just can't put our finger on the right look for the site.

for those interested - the site we are building is at <sorry, no urls> (you can see by the picture of the girl by the valiant charger - that there not after the stereo typical look for their site) - however, to the same extent we dont want flash and moving bits and pieces everywhere. futhermore - i haven't been able to find many car mechanic sites out there as well.

so if you have an ideas or examples of sites out there which match this description - please post em!

thanks tim.

we certainly intend to! i know what the normal sites all look like (or most of the template ones for sale) - is it wrong to ask for examples of originality? these mechanical are hard working, down to earth guys, who like good old solid cars; hence trying to design the site to match their "corporate values" is proving to be somewhat challenging. i am not looking for the latest and greatest with all the bells and whistles at all - rather something to fit their image (and thats where we are struggling), as there is not (well i haven't found them yet!) that many examples of what i am looking for, for these guys out there. hence my post!

i haven't been able to find many car mechanic sites out there as well.

There are tons. Many look like they were designed in Netscape composer by a five year old.

Ask yourself:
What kind of look do you think is appropriate?
Then ask, what kind of sites usually sport this look?
Do you want it to look hip? Take a look at beauty salon sites, fashion sites, dance club sites, etc...

Graphic design-ey? Check out Communication Arts Magazine's online site, they have a site of the week there (although it's usually Flash, ha!)
