Generally if a site looks funny in netscape it looks that way in all or most of the versions - so if you fix it for one it generally goes away in all.

This time it is proving me wrong. In my site the layout is pretty much the same excpet for the first page - which is the culprit. This is the only page where the left side images seem to float way right creating a huge gap.

In netscape 4.7 and 7.1, IE, Opera all look as it should. I have 2 style sheets - one just for netscape 4.77. I am using @import for all other browsers.

Totally not true. Netscape 4.8 and below uses a completely different rendering engine from Netscape 6.0 and higher (there was no 5.0, in case you didn't already know that).

As hartlandcat says, Netscape 6 is completely different to Netscape 4.

NN7 is similar to NN6, but the latter is known to be very buggy. If a page renders badly in NN6 but OK in NN7, it may well be not worth "fixing".

I have to make a general me too post. Netscape 6 may well not be worth supporting since its rendering engine is so buggy. It may be best just to live with the image problem.

Very few people use Netscape 6, so it's not really worth supporting. My site looks horrendous in Netscape 6.0, as do many other sites. Netscape 6.1 and 6.2 are a bit better, but Netscape 7.0 and higher are fantastic.

Thanks to all who responded. I was not to sure how many Netscape users there were - I ma glad to see that maybe I can not worry about it. I did fix the problem however - I had a java script that displayed the date. I removed that and the issue went away. I never had a java script do that before - does anyone know if that is common or rare?

I'm assuming you meant that you weren't sure how many Netscape 6 users there were, as enough people still use Netscape in general (mainly version 7) to worry about it.

Website stats can often be very misleading about Netscape 6 etc. Some recognise Netscape 6, Netscape 7, Mozilla and all other Gecko-based browsers as Netscape 5.0 or Netscape 6.0. This is usually because the stats programs haven't been updated for a while (and thus don't know how to recognise Netscape 7 correctly). On looking through my user-agent strings, I've never had anyone using Netscape 6.0 or 6.1 since at April at least.
