My browser is not saving any pages in the history even though all the settings remain the same. It's saving the visited pages, images, cookies, etc in temporary internet folder, but it is not saving anything in the History folder. Even when I click on the history link on the IE browser, it displays all the data it has stored since the past many weeks (I haven't deleted my history since 8 weeks). It shows me information for all the past weeks, except the last week and this week.

I am noticing this change after having upgraded my windows version with Service Pack 2 (SP 2) after the msblast.exe virus struck.

My main concern is that the when I do a search in google and visit those pages, they must look as visited links, so I know that I have seen them before.

I also have zonealarm pro firewall installed, and as I suspected that it could be the problem I shut it down, but still it doesn't work.

I run windows 2000 + IE 5 + SP2 (service pack 2)

Any help would be appreciated.

My advice would be to use Mozilla or Mozilla Firebird instead of IE . . . :)

Unfortunately, I don't know what the problem you asked about might be. You could try upgrading to IE6, or maybe someone else here will have some better suggestions.

Thanks for the help, Matthew.

Unfortunately, the problem didn't lie with IE, but with that damn Mcafee virus scanner.

The reason the visited links theory didn't work was because the pages that I visited weren't being saved in the history folder, so no visited links.

After searching for days, I found a thread which highlighted the reason and I am posting it here so others who have faced similar problems may be able to sort it out.

Actually it is related to McAfee , I've researched it a bit deeper than the other thread and found the solution is to "customize my VShield settings" and turn off "ActiveX scanning" or disable the internet filter altogether , this is the only reason i've ever seen IE stop keeping history.
