Of the commonly used fonts on non-Windows platforms, which are your favorites? Please distinguish between serif and sans-serif.

Some common MacIntosh fonts are listed at:
[developer.apple.com...]

They are:

Serif: Times, New Century Schoolbook, Palatino
Sans-serif: Helvetica, Arial, Verdana*
Monospace: Courier
Fantasy: WingDings, Symbol

* installed by Internet Explorer 4+

Arabic Newspaper -- one of my favourite Linux fonts.

Most of the common Windows fonts have a Linux equivilent:

Times New Roman ---- Adobe Times
Arial ---- Adobe Helvetica
Verdana ---- Arabic Newspaper

Maybe I'll put together a proper list later when I can be bothered to switch the monitors around again.

On XFree86 4 TruType is natively supported, so all your favorite Windows fonts can still be used in Linux, and on onlder versions of X, XFT allows for third-party support of TruType fonts. :)
