Root linking

I want to use root links for something, but they don't seem to be working. I read that they're supposed to start at the root folder of the server. So is it the server, or the the root directory of my site?

Are there any other issues I should know about?

Root links, where the URL begins with a forward slash, should begin at the root directory of the domain in which they appear, not the root of the server itself.

I've never had a problem, but I suppose there could be a server misconfig of some kind. That's outside my realm, however. Might be a good question for the Website Technology Issues [webmasterworld.com] forum

The biggest issue with root linking for me (and the reason I seldom use it) is that it won't function on a local copy of a website -- because it's not actually in its native domain.

Strange... I just tried again and it worked. What did I do different? I dunno.

Well, thanks anyway.

If you have your local copy in a folder, on your C: Drive, with the same name as the folder of your root domain, it will work.

For example, if your domain is something like "www.myisp.com/~mydomain", then put your local copy in a C:~mydomain folder.
