Virtual PC

How does it work for you?

I was about to buy a new hard drive and install multiple systems by partitioning the space. But tonight, my instructor mentioned Virtual PC by Connectix. It seems like a less costly/simple way of creating a browser testing environment, and I just wanted to get some ideas from those that are using it, or have used it.

Thanks for any suggestion...

Thanks bill, have you tried either of these packages?

Nope, but I'm leaning toward VMware due to all I've read. I just need a bit of time to play with this because I know that setting up a virtual PC will involve installing multiple versions of Windows, etc. I have to finish a few projects before I can try.

I have used Virtual PC before and it worked fine for testing web sites with windows browsers. These days I use VNC instead. I have VNC servers running on Windows and Unix boxes and with a VNC client on my Mac I can easily test Win and Unix browsers remotely. Take a look at [uk.research.att.com...] It works and it is free as in beer.

I will echo bitstearm on that VPC thing. (but never tried VNC)

VPC on a fast and memory filled Mac allows me to test sites on any platform and on most browsers by just hitting reload in the proper window. A Mac with VPC is an all in one solution to work efficiently.

IMHO, the only way to go. ;)

How much memory are we talking? 512MB sufficient for Virtual PC?

Yes it should be more than enough for a single copy, but you will need more if you want to keep many versions of Windows running simultaneously.
