Hi Guys,

With only a small amount of html knowledge ( still learning rapidly) I am trying to create a redirect with a popunder window.

The plan is to have my visitor click an external link on another site to come to mine eg www.example.com but be instantly redirected to another site seamlessly without them noticing too much of the redirect. This would be a straight forward domain redirect but as they pass through the redirect I would like to have a pop under window launched with a name and email opt in form on it.

Can anyone help me here?

Thanks

Brendan

So there are three domains involved in this?

Domain 1 - contains the link
Domain 2 - generates the pop-under
Domain 3 - final destination

My first wonder is why you can't use just two domains, and launch the pop under from the redirect destination page. This kind of scheme seems too convoluted and, well, sneaky.

The page on Domain 2 that launches the pop-under could use a meta-refresh of 0 seconds, plus serve the pop-under script. But keep this Rube Goldberg contraption away from googlebot. It's the kind of redirection that can get you penalized.

And it also seems like an offline marketing mentality to me - not really "permission marketing" but more like old school "interruption marketing". I've given you a technical answer above, but not everything that can be done technically SHOULD be done.

with a name and email opt in form on it

What name? Are you also planning to pre-populate the form with information you grab from the browser? Again, you are looking for permission to email, so why not be up front and just make the offer?

Hi tedster,

Thanks for your reply and feed back on the strategy. I will explain what I am doing and would love feedback.

I am trying my hand at affiliate marketing so I have posted a link to my redirect site on say.... a forum. I could have it link directly to the product I am selling witch in this case is someone else's website but I would like to get a name and email address off them for email marketing if they choose to opt in.
Seeing as i dont own the site they are about to visit i cant ask them to opt in on that site. Basically I want to refer someone to a product page but be able to keep in touch with my lead if they opt in.

I chose the pop behind because I dont want to interrupt them viewing the product page. If they have seen the page and product and then opt in they are in the market for what is offered. A more qualified lead to follow up.

Cheers!

I'm not strong in affiliate marketing, but now that you've explained the situation I am beginning to see at least a glimmer of light here. Not my cup-of-tea as a marketer, however.

The problem with what you plan on doing, as I understand it, is that visitors who get pushed to 2 sites with 1 click won't see the opt in form until they close the browsers (if it gets passed blockers and warnings). They may assume that the form is associated with the wrong site.

Your goal sounds legitimate and good but it could also be used to gather massive mail lists for spamming purposes if it worked.

I would keep the plan to two sites and iframe the 3rd site or a portion of it.

Popups/unders are, increasingly, blocked by updated browsers so this seems an exercise in futility. Just my 2 cents.

And even if not blocked will probably be ignored. Users are naive at times, but not stupid. But the shotgun effect sometimes gives results. A pony I don't ride.

Now pop-up effect is getting worse.. for microsoft-based measures to intercept we can not do anything... can only serve costomers

Thanks Guys,

I will look at other methods that dont seem so forceful and that will work a little more affectively.
