I am having issues with customer's checking out using IE8. We are not having issues with any other browser or IE7, customers can check out and buy.
What we know so far is that after clicking the continue button to connect to the secure checkout page IE8 just hangs...forever!
I tried the compatibility mode both on the browser and the meta tag on IIS (meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="IE=Emulate7" />) , and no luck.
Thanks,
KH

I say this because I have had these issues from time to time with IE7, and in my case, it turned out to be a conflict with add-ons - Java updates, actually.
This may be one approach - have your model case turn off Add-On's. restart the browser, try again.
To fix it, you need to be able to duplicate it, or at least access an environment in which you can replicate the problem.
Thanks for your reply ! I found out that it is a Windows Vista setting! XP and IE8 works fine. Vista IE8 users need to run IE8 as an ADMINISTRATOR to be able to connect to secure pages.
So here's what to do to connect to secure pages for Vista IE8:
1. Right click on the IE8 icon (desktop or start menu)
2. Select Run as administrator
For now, I can't really control what the customers do and this annoying Vista setting, so I just have a message on my checkout page to tell Vista IE8 users what to do and hope they don't bounce off...
Thanks,
KH
Customers normally are not going to follow instructions unless they trust a website or really want what is being offered. If this is standard behaviour with IE8 and Vista MS has just put a lot of small ecommerce guys in a heap of trouble. Hopefully they will fix this issue.
I have several ecommerce sites with secure checkout, but don't have a Vista computer to try it out. Like you said my XP and IE8 are working fine.
Here is a workaround that is simple (makes much sense) that other sites are currently doing.
When an user logs in using IE8 they get automatically redirected to a https version of that login page. In this way, the user is submitting info from https to https ( so Vista/IE8 does not block it).
Unfortunately for us making this change (member and checkout areas all secure) is not so simple after all, but we are exploring how best to do this on the checkout process only so that there is no switch from http to https and viceversa.
Any other suggestions are welcome!
