Everything was going fine until I checked it in Internet Explorer 7. For some reason, this particular version, and no other, produces this odd random white space to the right of my footer.
It actually elongates the page to do this, and creates a horizontal scroll bar at the bottom that shouldn't be there. Tested in Firefox 3, IE 6, and IE 8, all of which display it correctly and seem to get the idea.
My issue is that IE 7, despite how broken it may be, is the clear majority favorite of the parents / grandparents / guardians accessing this site. I've asked around at other places but they just scream DIVITIS and leave.
I've cleaned it up, divitis isn't the issue (surprise surprise), and I'm still stuck here. The idea is that the footer and header both infinitely expand. I think the header doesn't cut off like the footer does because I've defined it as the body background in the styles.
One odd thing I should mention is that the lower the resolution, the more white space it creates. It actually gets larger just be resizing the browser window. In other words, it is the smallest when the browser is maximized.
Please help, anything will do.
I used XHTML because that is what I learned, and I'm too stubborn to change. As such, it passes validation.
I'm all out of ideas.
Thanks in advance.

If the XHTML is valid that's a good start. Have you tried validating the CSS [jigsaw.w3.org] as well?
