How big should the logo be?

I'd like to do a survey to find out how much real estate you guys (and gals) are using for your logo. I see that the WebmasterWorld logo is 109x56.
Here are a couple of sizes I used:
153x108
700x100
467x59
219x55

I've noticed that my early creations tended to use large logos and my more recent sites use smaller logos. Do you think that beginning webmasters tend to use larger logos?

What goes through your mind when deciding on logo size?
Do you prefer the upper left corner, centered at the top or the upper right corner?

I like small logos. Aligned to the left then with the slogun to the right of the logo.

As for size, no bigger than the WWM logo. And yes, i think the first couple of sites a webmaster does, have bigger logos. Mine included.

i have always said bigger is not better :)

My current logo is also the banner which is 750 x 60 on the outside web page.

The actual pay site uses a banner of 780 x 45, of which maybe half the 780 is logo. It's small enough not to intrude on the page.

It could probably be smaller.

I like keeping the logos small, in different sites I'll actually integrate the logo into the navigation going across so its more fun. However many of my clients enjoy larger logos at sizes of 200+ pixels in height.

Yes, I think beginning webmasters tend to use larger everything.

What goes through your mind when deciding on logo size?
I feel the logo should exhibit continuity with page design at an appropriate, but significant size to ensure presence on the page.

Do you prefer the upper left corner, centered at the top or the upper right corner?
I always use upper-left corner in accordance with European and Western left-to-right language rhythms. This is where my users come from so that's who I design for.

When trying to keep design to a minimum I go big Logo small design. That way the only design you have is the most important, your branding.

My logo sits at 244 x 52 and it is situated at the top left hand corner of all of the pages of my personal site.

For a new site I'm working on, (a site that I've put way more thought into than any others I've ever done):

270 x 65, with a slogan type phrase within it

In the beginning, I don't think much of anything. Now? For this site I've already reduced the size of it once, and that was to make the file size smaller to decrease download times

Now, upper left, used to always put them in the center.

Readability is a key factor. Not just in that the text (if any) should be readable - individual letter clarity etc - but also the logo should be recognisable for what it is, particularly if it's a reasonably well known image.

I had to do a site recently and use a logo that had a lot of fiddly thin parallel lines in it, and a long name, in Times font. Totally sucked to have to reduce it down at all, as it made it unreadable in both senses of the word, but it was either that or have it so large it looked ugly. In the end I removed the text, and only had the full logo on the front page.

Generally I'll stick with a logo that's pretty small, around 150 pixels wide at the most (which is the width I normally make the left-side menu strip, if there is one).
